MILESTONE: with the filming of "INTELLIGENCE," Pendrell Suites celebrates being a location in over 50 TV series, movies, movies of the week, commercials, pilots and more. Hollywood has been the largest genesis of what has been filmed here, but we have also been used by Chinses TV--and congratulations to Chinese actress, Sun Li, who shot here in the Chinese TV series "One Metre of Sunlight" in the Summer of 2003. Sun Li's star has been elevated since she had great reviews in a Chinese movie this year.
(And this is too freaky: Sun Li plays Yue Ci, a blind village girl who attends to the needs of Huo Yun Jia and consoles him when he pines away over the death of his wife and daughter, and moves to the countryside in withdrawal. This in a movie with Jet Li. (I don't know if they are related by blood, but they are by having both shot here at Pendrell Suites!)
Then, Chris Haddock, the brains and producer behind DaVinci's Inquest (see below) shot scenes of the spin-off INTELLIGENCE at Pendrell Suites in mid-July, 2005. (They didn't leave any props behind, but we wish Chris, his cast and crew the best of luck with this pilot.
We knew our resident aliens were gathering friends, but E.T.? Yes, in mid-June, 2005, a new TV series shot for three days at Pendrell Suites. The series is called "Masters of Horrors," the brain-child of Mick Garris, who directed all the Stephen King movies--that's a pretty good pedigree.
The episode that shot at Pendrell Suites was called "Chocolate," and starred Henry Thomas of E.T. fame--I know that he met the aliens, but whether it was before or after the shooting, I don't know, because I am human! Read more here. Watch it this faqll on Showtime, or buy the DVD--when you come to Pendrell Suites you can see memorabilia in Rosemary's suite and learn about some of the secrets--hehe!
On Wednesday, July 21st, 2004 Pendrell Suites hosted another shoot! This time it was the same Canadian T.V. drama that shot its pilot here in 1998, DaVinci's Inquest. This award-winning Canadian police drama is actually set in Vancouver--Pendrell Suites is in its own town.
This time, Donnelly Rhodes, Ian Tracy and Kim Hawthorne graced the halls of Pendrell Suites. Indeed, we hosted around 72 of cast an crew in the newly revamped mediation garden. (Imagine getting married in such a beautiful and storied place!)
In early July, 2004, Pendrell Suites hosted scenes from The Condemned.
This is a Canadian "Indie." (independently produced film without major studio backing, that is).
In December, 2003, we hosted a Bud Lite commerical at "the Suites." This had a great and funny script. We thought it was being made in time for Super Bowl. However, the Canadian Government thinks its citizens are too stupid to know what they like on the dial. Accordingly, the Canadian Radio and Television Commission forces those that broadcast the most famous, annual football game to excise the American commercials and force us to watch the Canadian ca-ca. (We do not have free speach in Canada--of course, nor do we really have a constitution.) So, we never saw any of the Budweiser commercials and do not know whether the one filmed here aired or not.
X-TOUR and Pendrell Suites on German TV--ZDF network on Oct. 10 and Oct. 12/03 Don't miss it in Europe!
The pilot filmed by Eliza Dushku here at Pendrell Suites in March is now filming 12 episodes. It is premiereing on FOX October 30. It is called "Tru Calling." Eliza acts great, looks great and is great! Watch it!
Beijing TV shot a TV series at Pendrell Suites in the middle of July. The crew was incredibly polite, courteous and professional. Not only that, but they put Boyd and Axaxa in a cameo appearance. The Producer said that they show is seen by a BILLION people. Oh yes, they all recognized the picture of Rosemary with Mulder (David Duchovny) so, yes, the "X-Files" is known around the world. (We're trying to get a clip--Boyd knows a little Mandarin so he might be able to follow it better than the German...)
Millenium Productions with Bob Godwin [Bob was one of the Executive Producers of X-Files, BTW], Dawn Parouse and Jon Feldman shot scenes for the pilot episode of Eliza Dusku's new series at Pendrell Suites in March, 2003. (You might know her from Buffy and the Vampire Slayer.)
We also have an interview about Pendrell Suites and the X-Tour by Boyd, who is rosemary's son, when "Romeo Must Die" was filming at Pendrell Suites: (It's in English.)

The Chris Isaac Show filmed at Pendrell Suites on Easter Monday--yes, that's not a complete holiday in British Columbia, although Good Friday is. The shoot went well and Chris is a great guy, along with all the rest of his crew. They did run over a little, but they settled with us by doantiong the prop coach lights at the front of the hotel.

While it's great to be on Eurpoean TV--and we've also been in Cathay Pacific's inflight magazine, as well as the Singapore Airline's regional airline's one--we like all our American friends to know about our little, hotel, too. So, it was great when Nick Lea (the Evil Agent Krychek on "X-Files") came to Pendrell Suites to shoot a piece for The Travel Channel on the Discovery Netrwork. Here's a little piece of that--in English, of course:

Another French station filmed at Pendrell Suites in December, 2002, but we never got to see that on French TV.
Last September (2002) we filmed a documentary on Vancouver with thte German TV Network ZDF. The show as produced by Marina Fuhr and aired on French TV (Voyages, Voyages)--they dubbed a French version--and in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and, we think also, in the Nordic countries. Here: (P.S. Rosemary's in the cast!)

Watch out in February on the TRAVEL CHANNEL--that's part of the Discovery Network in the US--and see Pendrell Suites featured as they go on an X-Tour for TV. Nicholas Lea, who played the nefarious Krychek narrates the show. In fact, he is interviwed in depth in Rosemary's living room! (This is, of course, Agent Scully's apartment on "X-Files.") Don't miss it and don't miss out on coming to stay at Pendrell Suites! BOOK NOW!
CATHAY PACIFIC, that fabulous Hong Kong-based airline, had a story on Pendrell Suites in itsinflight magazine, Discover, which included a story on the X-Tour, in the October/November, 2002 issue. You can download it in PDF here: Page 1 and page 2, although it is written in Chinese--hey, we're global!) Better yet, read it on one of the flights or at Pendrell Suites!(You require Adobe's Acrobat to read it. If you do not have one install on your system, you may download a FREE copy here.)
SILKAIR, the regional airline subsidiary of Singapore Airlines carries a story in its September/October/02 issue on Pendrell Suites, which you can download it in PDF here: Page 1 and page 2. (You require Adobe's Acrobat to read it. If you do not have one install on your system, you may download a FREE copy here.) Another fabulous Asian airline. So, fly both Silkair and Singapore Airlines.
"FIRST TO DIE," a U.S. Miniseries starring Gil Bellow, TRACY POLLAN (MICAHEL J. FOX's WIFE), CARLY POPE, ANGIE EVERHART and SEAN YOUNG shoot at Pendrell Suites in September/02. They were going to use the suite across from AGENT SCULLY'S, but then the Director RUSSELL MUCLCAHY decided the kitchen floor was not bright enough to show the corpse of, well, the first to die. So, the crew ended up using a top floor suite.
There was a murder in the bathroom, apparently more frightening the the scene in Alfred Hitchkok's "PSCYO". Special Effects asked Rosemary whether it was alright to use fake blood on the hardwood floors. When she was told they put a special resin underneath so it picks up with getting into the almost 100 year old cracks in the wood, she said to go ahead. Both POLLAN and BELLOWS commented on what a great place was Pendrell Suites!
Seems it is a story about a group of San Franciscan professional women who solve a murder. (It's taken from a novel by writer James Pattersons, who also wrote ALONG CAME A SPIDER and KISS THE GIRLS . (Of course, we cannot help but note the former, starring MORGAN FREEMAN also shot here in Vancouver.)
"Ahead of schedule...?" HEATHER GRAHAM, MINNIE DRIVER and COLIN FIRTH were all set to film scenes from NEW CARDIFF at Pendrell Suites when, what do you know, they got ahead of schedule and did the scene elsewhere.
Top Tokyo Radio Station, J-Wave, and star announcer/DJ/Interviewer SACHIKO UCHIDA toured Pendrell Suites in mid June while taking an X-Tour. Her comment about PS was "beautiful!"
Just Missed "CHEERS" star TED DANSON & wife MARY STEENBURGEN. They, along with QUEEN LATIFAH were all set to film at Pendrell Suites in late May. However, some regulatory approvals were not forth coming and they had to use another location.
"JURASSIC PARK"Star LAURA DERN (that's Bruce's daughter) graced the halls of Pendrell Suites in mid May, starring in a movie of the week called "DAMAGED CARE." The subject is the flawed HMOs in the U.S.
"NIGHT VISIONS" filmed at Pendrell Suites in the Fall. Host HENRY ROLLINS had some very choice lines--adn, hey, he does look buff! If you watch the show, they changed the sign from Pendrell Suites to "Elmwood Estates."
Commercials heading North, too! A Miller Lite commercial was filmed at Pendrell Suites in September, '00! The all American cast was supported by the world famous--and ever dependable--Vancouver industry. Wow! Can we produce fim here in Vancouver or what?
Stockard Channing and Mia Farrow filmed scenes from "It's A Girl's Thing" at Pendrell Suites in June, '00. (Thanks for the autographed picture Mia and for signing our book, Stockard!)
"The Outer Limits," filmed at Pendrell Suites for a second time in January 2000. People always wonder why we have an alien connection. Well, it is not only because of "The X-Files" or that fact that one of the aliens, Brian Dennehy in "Cocoon" shot a movie here, but the real story is here at aliens site.
"Ali," one of Pendrell Suites resident--but not always visible--aliens, has been retained by The X-Tour to promote the tours of Hollywood-in-Vancouver by going to Gastown and Canada Place to meet and greet tourists. (Sometimes you can see him at Vancouver International Airport, too!)
We've been boasting about how much Hollywood production goes on in Vancouver and British Columbia. Well, now we have a piece of Titanic, too! That's right, Mr. Billy Zane is in town shooting a mini-series called Sole Survivor ! We hope Billy enjoys Vancouver.
Yikes, we had two series cancelled during October! Chris Carter's Harsh Realm was tubed by the brain trust at FOX and then Cold Feet got the axe. We know Chris Carter will resurrect, again. (And, hey, he's still got The X-Files!) Also, the beautiful "Shelley" on Cold Feet, Jean Louisa Kelly will be a Star on something else, believe us!
"Hollywood-in-Vancouver" is now projected to spend over $1,000,000,000 ($ one Billion) in Vancouver and British Columbia in film productions for 1999! Wow! As you can see, they spent some of that at Pendrell Suites, too! In fact, if you were watching NBC on Friday, September 24th, a one hour comedy called "Cold Feet" premiered. Yes, you would have seen great scenes both inside and out of Pendrell Suites. (One of Rosemary's headboards featured so well in the shot--Shelley (Jean Louisa Kelly--and, boy, is she a dish!) had it in her bedroom--that the producers had to rent it from us for more episodes!
Update on "RMD" (see Romeo Must Die below.): It appears this huge, action thriller will be released by Warner Bros. in February, 2000. So get ready. It is going to be too cool and very, very entertaining. Here is a link with some pictures--note that the scene with the chess players takes place in Pendrell Suites' meditation garden. (Tidbit: when they were shooting here, there were over 100 cast and crew in the meditation garden. There was even a fellow taking shots and interviewing people for a documentary about the making of the film for HBO!) Just think, when you stay at Pendrell Suites not only are you on the hallowed ground of where Agent Scully (Gillian Anderson) lived--and from where she was abducted--but also the site of Jet Li's heroics when he defends his love, Trish (Aaliyah--and she is also a dish!). Yes, indeed. That along with over 20 other Hollywood productions. (Don't you want to be famous, too!)
"Romeo Must Die," a gigantic feature film produced by Warner Bros., starring Jet Li ("Li Lian Jie," to our Asian friends) and Aaliyah, filmed at Pendrell Suites during May, June and July. Wow! Wait until you see Jet Li battle the bad guys--he was doing Wu Shu and martial arts right in the back yard of Pendrell Suites. Not only that, but Aaliyah's character, Tricia," lived at Pendrell Suites. It is going to be a really big blockbuster when it comes out this Fall or Christmas. (Trivia question: which screenwriter stayed at Pendrell Suites right beneath Aaliyah's suite? Answer: The writer of Jackie Chan's "Rumble in the Bronx," who was onsite when they shot scenes for that movie in Vancouver.!)
"COLD FEET," a pilot for NBC--sources say: "Think '30 Something...,' but this is '20 Something...,' is filming at Pendrell Suites in January/99! This Mark Burley produced show is to be directed by Nicole Holofcener. Actors are: David Sutcliffe, Jean Louisa Kelly, Dina Spybey, William Keane, Alicia Coppola (Francis Ford's daughter?) and Harry VanGorkum. (UPDATE -- 01 July '99. The show is now commissioned for 13 episodes!)
Brooke Langton cruised around Pendrell Suites in June/98 while shooting scenes for "The Net," a t.v. series based on the eponymous film hit of 1996! The shooting crew have great feelings about this show, which will debut on selected North American t.v. screens in September. This is basically "The Fugitive" in a different gender. However, each show's plot illustrates some of the modern day issues raised by computers in society--we won't say any more, except that Brooke's character is forever "bugged..."
Lou Gossett Jr. starred in and co-produced "The Inspectors," a movie-of-the-week in March/98, partly filmed on location at Pendrell Suites--he's a great man and a super actor! (UPDATE: 09 July 1999 -- Now Lou is going to do "The Inspectors II!")
"Da Vinci's Inquest," a pilot for a prospective t.v. series was also shot partly on location at Pendrell Suites in March--it was a busy month! This cop show stars Nicholas Campbell, Gwyneth Walsh, Ian Tracey, Robert Wisden, Donnelly Rhodes and Sue Mathew.
"Outrage," another movie of the week shot at Pendrell Suites in August/97 starred Jennifer Grey and Rob Lowe.
"Truth About John Branigan," a movie of the week partly shot at Pendrell Suites last April, directed by Brian Dennehy, who also stars in it, aired November 25th on CBS
"Daughters," another movie-of-the-week, starring Nicolette Sheridan and Stacy Keach shot last December is also due for showing soon.
"Sentinel," the t.v. series, also shot at Pendrell Suites last year. We are waiting to see that episode, too.
We are updating our webpages and will add our "movie-ography" of productions shot on location at Pendrell Suites as time permits. Meanwhile, you'll have to watch the movies, then stay here to figure out where they were shot.
